The one thing that almost stopped us from travelling the world with our kids

Fear.

Sometime it felt all consuming.

There was a lot that could go wrong.

Our decision making and ability to simply think felt crippled as we grappled with our options, our worries and ‘what ifs’.

If you let it fear will steal every single piece of joy from you life.

It will keep you frozen. It will steal your creativity and imagination. It’ll keep you from experiences that change you. It will keep you shut away, shut down and hidden.

The truth is there is no shortage of things to feel afraid of, things to scare and terrify you. There is plenty of bad news. You don’t even need to go looking for it.

BUT there is also a lot of hope.

There is plenty of light and joy. There is goodness and kindness and a future worth delighting in and getting excited about.

It’s ok to be afraid. A healthy amount of fear keeps us safe and narrows our focus. The trick is recognising where it is serving us and when it is destroying us.

Fear is the doorway to change. It is the birthing place of courage, bravery and conviction.

If we had listened to the voice of fear we never would have travelled the world. We wouldn’t have had to face the realities of our pain and trauma like we’ve chosen to do. We would have missed out on the opportunity to meet incredible people and go to incredible places.

We’ve seen sunset and sunrises in places we didn’t even know existed. We’ve laughed as we held on for dear life in the back of a jeep in Egypt, danced at a tribal wedding in the Sarhara Desert, conquered a mountain in the North of Wales and dived the seas of the Mediterranean.

We’ve been pushed and pulled and stretched in our relationships and built a new foundation that had been leveled in a previous season.

Fear lead us to the edge of what we thought was our capacity only to realise we are capable of so much more.

Fear forced us to cling to truth and to love.

It has made us stronger, kinder and more compassionate.

What if the very thing we are terrified of is the thing that stands in the way of the future we could only dream of?

What if on the other side of fear is an opportunity to grow, transform and create a life that brings you alive?

Our decisions are driven by one voice. They are driven by fear or by love.

Which voice are you listening to?
