This life of uncertainty is not for the faint of heart. It is both exhausting and exhilarating. It is a constant roller coaster of emotion, of ebb and flow and up and down.
I knew when we made the decision to travel the world our life would become one of constant indecision and uncertainty. Plans changing, plans cancelled and our future unknown. I thought though that the step of faith required for this type of lifestyle would be the hardest part. Surprisingly its not. It’s the part that comes next, the ‘in-between’.
The not here, not there. It’s all well and good to say ‘I took a great leap of faith, a huge risk’ but then what? What happens between the jumping and landing safely back on the ground? How do you cope with the discomfort and lack of certainty.

I’m not saying there isn’t beauty found in the in-between. In fact I think that it is the incubation period and the cultivation of values and beliefs necessary for the new season to start. Where resilience, endurance and true courage is born. But my goodness this season is uncomfortable. No quick fixes. No ability to go back and not yet able to forge forward. It is a waiting season. A trusting season.
There is though hope. When it feels like you’ll go mad with overwhelm and constant questions and what ifs, a new day dawns and things don’t seem quite so scary. What I’m learning is the importance of riding that wave. This has been a game-changer for us. To sit in the presence of worry, anxiety, sadness and fear. To notice it and give it space and say ‘this too shall pass’.

The reality is, whether you realise it or not, every one of us are living with uncertainty. Tomorrow isn’t promised. The illusion of safety though, is some what of a comfort but once that bubble bursts its difficult to go back.
Do you trust the process and stay the course? Let me encourage you. You are not alone. Give yourself some grace, compassion and kindness. Before long the clouds will clear, a door will open and you’ll realise the uncertainty was building something unique and precious in you.
Regardless of the outcome no season is wasted.
