Well after deciding we’d document and share our journey with the world, a couple of weeks before we left Australia we realised we couldn’t give out of a place where we were absolutely empty. How could we talk about being present, slowing down and smelling the roses when we were in fact running a sprint with our eyes closed. Since then it’s been six months. Six months!?!
In truth when we left Australia we were in a complete fog and had no idea what we were about to do. And I’m sooo glad. I think if we’d have really let what we were doing settle into our bones we, or at least me, would have freaked out and climbed back into bed. Instead we find ourselves six months into this crazy, exciting, terrifying and wonderfully profound year of travel and boy have we been on an adventure of a life time.
It’s difficult to see the changes and minuscule shifts in yourself when you’re living it, but when I imagine our little family six months ago, I want to whoop and dance and scream. I want to wrap each of us in a huge hug and cheer us onto that plane. I’d tell us a few things though. Id say to us that you’re going to be stretched and pulled. It’s going to get really dark BUT, once you hit that bottom, you’re going to find a version of yourself you couldn’t ever have imagined. Slowly but surely you’re going to meet the real you, and you’re really going to like them! While you’re doing that you’ll be building a life that looks very different from the one you left. No stone will be left unturned and during this process your entire outlook on life, love, purpose and priority will shift. The process will be slow. Love is slow. Love is patient. Love is kind. Before you know it you’ll start to dream again. This time the stakes much lower. The fallback being compassion, empathy and understanding. It’s going to be the best thing that ever happened to you. So don’t give up. Trust the process. Welcome the pain and welcome the joy.
The six months of social media silence and all round life hiatus has been worth every second. To make up for it though, I’d better catch you up. Take you right back to the beginning. Our first stop on our global adventure…
